GEELONG defender Josh Hunt is very much in the selection frame for finals despite coach Chris Scott’s dire forecast for the veteran this week.
Scott touted that he would choose a younger player ahead of Hunt – if they warranted selection – but Cats VFL coach Matthew Knights believes Hunt’s mindset showed that he is more than capable of playing finals.
“I think I understand that Josh is still pretty much in line for senior selection and I think it will be very much dependent on who the AFL team plays and the type of players that are in the opposition, whether you play a Hawthorn or a Sydney or a Fremantle, it might be a bit different,” Knights said.
“Josh has to just keep playing good footy and if he does that, four or five or six weeks, is still a long time in footy and he demonstrated today that he reckons there’s still plenty of light at the end of the tunnel of this footy season.”
Paul Chapman also played well in his third VFL match to put his name up for a senior recall against Sydney this week.
“Chappy, the contested ball, he broke the lines really well. He just ended up in the right spot at the right time for that last goal from the goalsquare.” Chappy and Josh Hunt certainly pressed their cases today,” he said
Youngster Josh Cowan also had a terrific match in the Cats VFL teams’ thrilling six point win over Port Melbourne.
