GEELONG has announced it will host a historic night VFL qualifying final at Simonds Stadium on Friday August 30 to be played against either the Casey Scorpions or Williamstown, depending upon results in the final round.
The Cats have nailed top spot and the minor premiership with a three game buffer heading into their final round match against Bendigo Gold this Friday night.
It is expected the Cats will rest several of their VFL-listed players in the lead up to the match in readiness for finals.
The main concern for the Cats will be the fitness of their courageous skipper Troy Selwood, who injured a shoulder in the win against Port Melbourne.
He will be in doubt for week one of the finals.
Casey’s finals hopes have also suffered a blow with Melbourne defender James Macdonald – a reliable piece in the back half for Casey – retiring on the eve of VFL finals.
Melbourne will again restrict some of its players from playing in VFL finals with up to eight players set to miss out because of injury setbacks or failing to meet the selection criteria for finals.
